Why I Photograph Families on Film (and What That Means for You)

If you’ve landed here, you might be wondering: why film? With all the conveniences of digital photography, why would anyone go back to something that takes longer, costs more, and requires more care?

For me, the answer is simple: film slows things down in the best way. It asks us to be present — to take a breath, to notice the way the light hits your child’s hair, the quiet way your partner reaches for your hand. It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence.

And if you’re a mom like most of the ones I work with — thoughtful, busy, stretched thin — that kind of presence is something you crave, but rarely have time for.

For Moms Who Want to Remember It the Way It Felt

You’re not trying to create a flawless version of your family. You want to remember the real parts: the in-between moments, the way your toddler rests their head on your shoulder, the rhythm of your days as they are right now.

I love to capture the joy and exuberance of spontaneous giggles between parents and children — when your little one does that thing you weren’t expecting, and you both burst out laughing. That’s what stays with you.

Film Slows Everything Down — And That’s a Good Thing

Digital photography can feel like it’s chasing perfection. Film invites stillness. There’s no clicking hundreds of images. No performance. Just quiet observation.

You don’t need to ask your kids to sit still and smile at the camera. Interact. Play. Be yourselves — and ignore me. That’s when the magic happens.

When I photograph your family, I’m not working off a shot list — I’m watching. Listening. Letting your story unfold.

It’s Not About Being Trendy

I don’t shoot film because it’s cool or nostalgic. I shoot film because it helps me see clearly. It brings out the softness, the depth, the emotion in ordinary moments — the things we forget until we’re reminded by a photograph.

I shoot with film because I want to make images that feel real and truly capture the moments you’ll want to hold onto for generations to come.

A Note for the Season You’re In

If your days feel a little messy and full and beautiful all at once — you’re not doing it wrong. That’s just motherhood. And it’s worth remembering, just as it is.

You don’t need to plan every detail. You don’t need everyone to behave perfectly. You just need to show up.

If this chapter already feels like a blur, let’s slow it down for an afternoon. I’ll bring the film. You bring yourself.
